A boutique law firm Expert in fair use.

Why Fair Use?

Fair use is the right to use copyrighted material in new projects without payment or permission, in appropriate circumstances. As Judge Pierre Leval wrote, “Fair use should not be considered a bizarre, occasionally tolerated departure from the grand conception of the copyright monopoly. To the contrary, it is a necessary part of the overall design.” Our goal is to help more people understand how their own work can benefit from fair use, which in turn will serve the overall purpose of copyright: to promote progress in knowledge and art.

Fair use works.

Filmmakers, podcasters, authors, educators: fair use powers what you do, and we can help you make the most of your rights. From counseling during production to an opinion letter for insurance coverage as you take your work public, we can help you understand and use fair use.

Fair Use is Our Specialty.

We have devoted our careers to understanding and applying fair use, advocating for its proper application in courts and in congress, and helping others to understand and exercise their rights. We track the latest developments — in courts, in Congress, and in the U.S. Copyright Office — for every new opportunity and any note of caution.

Counsel that centers your vision.
